Shaw is about an hour and a half away so we've been a couple times. Everyone I know who actually lives there loves it! And people will love to come visit you :)
CONGRATS!! As soon as I saw the first picture I knew right away where you were going! I will say, I am jealous, I miss it so much!! When I come home to SC for a visit we should meet up sometime! We leave Italy soon to head to MT in May, but will be going to Charleston/Columbia for a month before hand. Not sure when you are heading to Charleston?
We were stationed at Charleston for 3.5 years. It's a great town, and I'd love to go back and visit although I wouldn't want to live there permanently... the heat/humidity were a little too much for me. But the beaches and downtown are great. Awesome restaurants and places of historical significance, very walkable within the city. Pretty crappy schools though, the best public schools are in the Dorchester II district in Summerville (we don't have children, but I had several friends who were teachers at different schools throughout the area). Charleston also is really great for running if you're into that at all... lots of races all year long! :o)
I'm so jealous!!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Charleston! We went there a little over a year ago and had a great time. The downtown historical area is absolutely amazing. I can't wait until we get to move back to the mainland. Hawaii is great and all, but I miss Chick Fil A, family, super WalMarts and being able to drive for more than 2 hours and end up in another state. =P
I love Charleston! Make sure you try the Shrimp and Grits from the Hominy Grill - make reservations first and if you like shrimp! Prepare for hot and humid weather in the summer and generally nice all other times. I've been there twice - once in April 2008 and again for my friend's wedding in November 2010. It was actually warmer in Nov 2010. I'm so jealous! I would love to live in Charleston for at least a short time. Oh yeah, and I'm pretty sure I would be at the beach just about every weekend in the Spring/Summer/Fall.
So happy you know where you'll be! We lived there for a little over a year. It wasn't meant for me (meaning I hated every minute of it), but it does have Target :-)
We lived in Charleston (well, technically in Summerville) for 2 years! The restaurants there are AMAZING and there are a lot of fun things to do. I did get really tired of the heat in the summer, but the weather in the spring and the fall was great. The school districts in Charleston, SC are terrible though. The only decent ones are in Summerville or farther into Dorchester County. So, with an MLIS you will probably be much better off in Dorchester County or in any of the public libraries.
I'm so excited for you! I love Charleston. One of my friends from high school owns an awesome little boutique there ... you'll have to check it out! :)
Wow! You're who I want to be in a few years, exactly. My boyfriend and I plan on getting married in June. I will be moving up to Charleston and getting my teaching certification. I hope to earn my MLIS online while teaching and become a children's librarian. I'm going to lurk for a while and try not to be too creepy.
Only driven through Charleston...so far. You must be so excited. Congrats on the good moving news and the Baby news, too! Great adventures for your new year. God Bless.
Charleston is awesome! You. Will. Love. It!! They have great beaches, downtown is so pretty and charming, with history and beautiful houses! Ga you're making me jealous!
Your blog is actually pretty amazing despite the lack of wording on some posts. I previously served in the military, and I know that being a military wife is certainly hard-work. Best of luck to the two of you, and I hope only the best for you both!
We're just north of you in Ukraine and heading stateside this summer, too, so I totally get it and am looking forward to some CFA as well! Blessings on your growing family!
I just stumbled across your site and wanted had to comment on this!! :) We are currently stationed at the Naval Weapons Base in Goose Creek, which is just outside of Charleston. Charleston is a great place to be!! There is so much to do and so many things that you magically find that has been hidden for years!! It's amazing!! Good Luck on your move!

How exciting!! I would love to visit Charleston and wouldn't mind having my hubby be stationed there either!!
I spent half the summer there when I was 8; it was very pretty there
I'm so excited for you!!!! I've only been Charleston once, so I don't have any sage advice...but I bet that lots of other lovely ladies do. :-)
I'm so happy for y'all! That's really exciting. I'm sure your family is beyond thrilled!
No I haven't, but I'm TOTALLY stoked for you!!!!
