This past weekend, Jordan and I attended our bases version of the AF Ball. It's pretty much just like it, but calling it a "gala" instead means they don't have to do a sit down meal or even seated tables. The good news is, you still get to dress up! The even better news? Getting your hair done here costs $10. Not even kidding. Maybe I should have them do my hair every day...
Here are the neighborhood girls getting ready to go. This of course, is before we realized a little problem. We had 7 people, and only one wanted to be DD. How is that going to work with an SUV that holds 5? Two in the back, naturally! Somehow they ended up with purses and drinks too...
At the Gala we hung out in the officer's bar. The club is combined, but the bars are separate, in theory. It's not a snobby thing, I think it's nice. Both enlisted and officer sides can enjoy a drink without worrying about who's watching. Anyway, that's where we hung out. There was a retired General who spoke, but he was in the main room, so I'm not sure what he said. I am sure that the poor girl that sang the anthem before that wanted to die. See, she sang the Turkish anthem and did well. Then the Star Spangled Banner, well, she forgot the words. So she started over. And forgot them again. That's what I call a bad night!
Then it was on to the main room once the band started playing. Even Jordan got out there and danced with me! We had a great time! After the band was done we moved to the DJ room. I have no pictures of that, and this is a good thing. I'm pretty sure I busted out some moves that I usually don't. Ha!
At the Gala I found out about an AF phenomena I had never heard of. Party sleeves! Have you heard of these? When the boys take their Mess Dress jackets off, you have fun sleeves and/or something fun on the back. Our friend Brandon has Florida sleeves, but the base commander had the best ones. Cha cha sleeves!! Who knows how he fit those in his jacket, but they were awesome. He even brought maracas! So, now Jordan wants some Texas sleeves, but I'm not finding any fabric with Texas flags. Let me know if you find some!
So that's the Gala! What a fun night!

Yes! You must have party sleeves!! You look stunning, by the way! I'm also hoping for a $10 hair-do for the ball here next month!
Looks like a great time. I love the red shoes!
I'm in TX, I am sure (though I haven't looked) that we have Flags, Longhorns etc. Email me at LaDonna.Raye(at)yahoo.com...we'll discuss it!!
It looks like it was such a fun evening! I want to go to a gala or ball sometime. I love your dress and shoes - so chic!!! Also, super jealous about the $10 hair. So awesome :) I also love the oraty sleeves. If you make some Texas ones, I want to see them!!!
It looks fun and you looked beautiful :)
Looks like fun and for $10 I think you should get your hair done everyday!
Looks like a great time. Haha i've never seen party sleeves before.
I LOVE party sleeves. I keep trying to get DH to let me make him some lol
Party sleeves?!? That's so awesome!!
You look great!!! It looks like it was a fun night!
It looks like so much fun and those party sleeves are hilarious!
maybe you could just buy a texas flag and have it made in to sleeves... one red sleeve, one white sleeve and the blue with the star on it on both? Just an idea...
I still plan to steal those shoes when you aren't looking. It's a good thing you didn't put a close up of them on the blog, or some other broad would want to steal them too. And I don't want any competition...
Love the shoes. Love. Love. Love.
How can you forget the words to the National Anthem? Did she know the words to the Turkish Anthem? Gees.
But, after that email I just sent you, I don't think I have the right to call anyone crazy for awhile, perhaps except me, myself, and I!
You look so pretty! I love the party sleeves!
The sleeve/back shirt thing isn't a new phenomena. A lot of pilots get them made. My Dad has the Texas flag on the back of his shirt. I think there is a place in Korea that you can get them specially made. I can ask him for you, and even send you a picture of his shirt if your husband is interested.
Party sleeves for the win! The Navy guys do the party sleeves thing too. It's hilarious!
Aww, looks like so much fun! You look great!
love your dress! super cute! as for the party sleeves, yes, my husband has them too. unfortunately, i wasn't there to help him select, so now we are both stuck with scooby doo. i mean really, scooby doo?
The party sleeves are cool. Our guys do the pattered cummerbunds and tie. The O and E thing bugs me though. As someone who has been on both sides everyone has something to bring to the table stuff like that just reinforces the better than attitude some people have.
So let me know where I can you some Texas flag fabric!!! LOVE this post!! Looks like you had some fun!!
That looks like a blast! Love the sleeves. I can't wait to get to go to a Navy Ball. We keep missing them. The first one he left the base the week before, and the second he was deployed.
oh yes party sleeves are a big thing in the fighter community. We haven't gotten Mr any yet, but alot of people have them. They can be hilarious. We haven't went to any of the AF Balls yet even tho we've been in for some time now. But we have went to several banquets and 'dining out' where mess dress is required. I love seeing them all in their mess dress.
you and your husband are very sweet :)
I can't wait to attend my first air force ball (or gala)!
