The 19th Wife
I REALLY enjoyed this book. I read it after reading Escape by Carolyn Jessop. While this was a fictional account of the FLDS type cults, I found it very interesting. Kept me reading to the very end!

I'm a big Jen Lancaster fan, and had already read Bitter is the New Black (LOVED!), and was anxious to read more. Our book club chose Bright Lights- big mistake. Bleh. It's too disjointed. I recommend if you do read it, that you read it in spurts. On the cruise I picked up Pretty Fat. So much better! This one had more of a flow, but was still the same funny Jen. If you do not like sarcasm and/or critical people, these books are NOT for you! Several in my book club may or may not have said I reminded them of Jen Lancaster. Uh oh.

The Mermaid Chair
This book is by the same author as The Secret Life of Bees (great book and movie!), so I thought I would like it. Sadly, I did not. It was another mid life crisis book, and at this point, I just can't relate. If it goes to the big screen, I totally see Diane Lane playing the main character. Mmm kay?

The Thirteenth Tale
Love, love, love, love! A story about an reclusive author who invites a young biographer to tell her story, one that has been lied about for years. The author writes a set of stories called Thirteen Tales, but only includes 12. The biographer attempts to find out the rest of the story. Kept me interested from beginning to end. Made me think, and of course, made me cry. Read it!

Bible Study: Esther
I have done several Beth Moore studies and really enjoyed all of them. Beth was truly given the gift of teaching, and it shows! While I learned a lot from this study, I didn't feel as if I "grew" as much as I did with other studies. Maybe it was because I did Daniel, another old testament study, last semester. Might be better to mix old and new!

The Power of a Praying Wife
A re-read, but always a good one. One of the two books I recommend to every wife. (The other being Five Love Languages) It's always good to have a reminder of how important prayer is, not only to our spiritual life, but to our marriage.
Currently Reading: The Virgin's Lover and Fish!

On the Shelf:

Anything to add?
And, as if I have not bored you enough. I have more. This time, it's a blog design! I recently redid Stevy's blog. Stevy is a friend from home, and my college roommate. I had fun making it for her. Stop by and tell her how cool her friend (that would be me) is :)

Tell me if the formatting is all crazy on this, k?

They actually made the Mermaid Chair into a lifetime movie with Heather Locklear (I believe) as the main actress. I thought the book was pretty decent, though not nearly as good as Bees, but the movie was just plain horrible!
I read The Virgin's Lover..surprisingly I wasn't a fan...I really enjoyed The Other Boyelyn Girl and subsequent books by Philippa Gregory..so I was disappointed at not liking it :(
I hope you find it more enjoyable!
lovely bones was nice. sort of disturbing. but i really want to read her other book... her true story.
not a fan of beth moore studys. love languages and praying wife are great books. something to re-read every year.
thanks for sharing! I love hearing about new books!
What is Fish about?! The cover looks attractive lol :)
Have you tried Marian Keyes?! She is AMAZING!
Escape was such a great book! Thanks for the recommendations, I'm going to check out the 19th wife!
I'm always on the prowl for a good book and this post is AWESOME!!! I will definitely be reading some of these!
I REALLY want to read the power of a praying wife. It's on my list. Your new blog is aaaaaaaah-dorable!
I'll have to try Camelbak. Jason has one that I got him for biking. It's like a backpack. He loves it.
I notice "Redeeming Love" on your bookshelf. Does that mean you have already read it or are still planning to? It is, absolutely, 100%, my all-time favorite book!
Thanks for the book recommendations. Love hearing about what others have enjoyed. Will check into a few of those. Also, big thanks on the Rue la la website. Just bought a leather bucket style purse from CK! I'm totally psyched that they ship to military DPOs!! Awesome~~
Hmmm, maybe I'll try Such a Pretty Fat. I read Bright Lights Big Ass and hated it! But I LOVED Bitter is the New Black...
I have only read two of those books: Fish and Power of a Praying Wife.
My to read list is rather long, but if I ever wade through it I will add a few of your suggestions. I would deinitely suggest reading a few Jane Austen books...if you haven't already read them. Oh and read, what's so amazing about grace by Philip Yancey and Life of the Beloved by Henri Nouwen.
Hmmmm.....that's really all I can suggest of my recent reads. But I can also suggest, Mere Discipleship and Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger.
Oh and The Hiding Place, In My Father's House and Tramp for the Lord, by Corrie Ten Boom!!( 3 separate books) A MUST MUST MUST MUST READ!
Oh yay! I'm so glad you love to read too! Because of school, most of the reading I do now-a-days is b.o.r.i.n.g. I can't wait for summer to start so I can start reading novels again.
Great suggestions. I'll be sure to check them out!
If you haven't already, you MUST read the shopoholic series by Sophie Kinsella. I KNOW (can really bet my life on it) that you'll love it.
And if you haven't started, the Twilight series is a must. I have to say - this skeptic ol me - that it's the BEST series I've ever read. I finished it last week and am contemplating reading it again. Yeah.
Where The Heart Is by Billie Letts (it's better than the movie)
Ruthless Trust by Brennan Manning (not-fiction)
I have more but I'll bombard you later.
I just finished reading the Virgins Lover!!! You should read a book called Rumors. It's really good!
Reading Liberty and Tyranny. I'll pass it on to you and Jordan when you get here.
crap, now I gotta get to reading more. I need to get through the ones I am on to some of your books :)
Nice blog design!!!!!
Great reviews, Casey! I'm glad I'm not the only one going through books at a break neck pace. :-)
I read Fish a few years ago...like, um 8...as mandatory business reading. It could be because my VP demanded that we all read it - but I don't recall that book with fond memories.
just added 19th wife to my amazon list for my next order!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing. I am always looking for new books to read, (especially when we take trips to places like Qatar) ;)
I had the same reaction about The Mermaid Chair. Loved The Secret Life, but I just could NOT relate to this one at all!
Oooh, I'll have to get the 19th wife. I'm so weirded out and fascinated by FLDS and pologamy, I loved Escape!
You must read the newest Jen Lancaster. I didn't like the last two books as much, but this one reminds me a lot of Bitter is the New Black.
I love book recommendations - and you gave so many! I used to read multiple books at a time, but my mom convinced me when I was young that it was a silly idea (maybe it was). Anyway, I am reading Liberty and Tyranny right now by Mark Levin. Not chic lit or a beach read, but I bet you would still love it since we tend to be politically like minded!
The blog is super cute!! Great Job! :)
I was just over at her blog and KNEW this style looked familiar.
GREAT work Casey! :)
I want to read that 13th tale if you have it- bring/mail it home. I've read Redeeming Love, when it first came out ages ago. Super good! I loaned it out and never got it back. Oh, Beach Road was good too (listen on ipod, I think in Jamacia) and made me want to read more of his mysteries.
I still have Sarah's Key and The Shack to loan you.
I really liked The Virgin's Lover. I think its one of my favorites by Phillipa Greggory.
I've never read anything by Jen Lancaster, but I've been thinking of trying her out. I'm thinking Bitter is the New Black is a good one to start with?
I loved "The Thirteenth Tale"!! Thanks for the great book recommendations! :)
I was about to buy Esther today but changed my mind at the last minute. I also saw the Daniel study. Sounds like you liked it. What Beth Moore study would you recommend the most?
Just came across your blog...Im a new Army wife, anyways, Redeeming Love is my second favorite book by Francine Rivers! Have a great day!
