On Saturday night we stayed in Treviso at a cute Bed and Breakfast
Side note: Bed and Breakfasts in Europe are nothing like in the states. They are usually family run and pretty basic. However, you get great service, and save a lot of money!
When I went to ring the bell to check in the BIGGEST DOG EVER came to the gate. Um hello, dogs are on my top three "hate" list. And when I say big, I mean big. I tell Jordan this, and he says I am exaggerating. By the time J gets to the gate, the big dog is gone, and a Yorkie is in its place. Now he really thinks I am lying. Finally, Sunday morning, J saw the dog. The puppy, the one year old GIANT puppy.
Here is the B&B owner with J and the two dogs. The picture doesn't even do justice to how HUGE this thing is. Check it out- Irish Wolfhounds
After that craziness we got on the road. The drive is really pretty simple. We used a GPS through Italy, then just followed signs through Slovenia and Croatia. We were able to find a parking spot quickly and head up to the castle. The scenery was just gorgeous. Trieste (and the castle) are on the coast.
The more you walk, the more the castle comes into view. Gorgeous!
Castle Miramare was built by Archduke Maxamilian in the late 1800's. He was an army leader, and eventually, Emperor of Mexico.
The gardens built around the castle are just as famous and are gorgeous even in the winter!
We were able to go inside the house, but no photos were allowed. Luckily we were also able to go to the balcony and got some great shots there. Can you imagine having your morning coffee with this view?
This is the kind of road trip rest stop I could get used too!

I have two small dogs, but I love Irish Wolfhounds. You're right they are massive!

That's hilarious about the big dog leaving and the yorkie in its place. I bet J did think you were overreacting.
That is one beautiful view and castle. Great vibrant pics with that new camera.
I don't mind dogs but really big ones you don't know are always scary! I am totally dying of envy as i read all your posts! That castle is gorgeous. Can you imagine living in a place like that?! Wow!

I'm with you on the dog thing~ don't really like them. My sister has a little maltese. I like her dog but that the ONLY dog I like and people think I'm such a jerk for it. Oh well...
